I love this song but I was never satisfied with the way I sang it. Too over done, trying too hard to sound like I was on Soul Train. So I handed it over to my pal Jon Carroll to give it his golden soul touch. Only he ran out of time and couldn't get to it. So we had to do it our poor selves! But by the time we got to it, I was beginning to feel more confident cause we had already been through a lot of recording. So I found a way to sing it that was more like me than Anne Peebles, and I found a way to get in those cool things that I love but wouldn't have come up with if I hadn't been up against the wall. Like scatting along with Mike Ault's melodic guitar lines, or bringing my guys in to be my shout chorus, or laying in my favorite Sly boom-lacka-lackas! The thing just stomps, and I marvel once again how plans gone awry in the studio can turn to gold.
