The Minute I'm Gone, You Want Me Back (Julia A. Kasdorf, 2008)
You kick me out again from our love shack
You’ve had it with this girl, that’s a natural fact
I heard you slam the door, I saw the paint crack
But The minute I'm gone, you want me back.
And so I hit the road like you do, jack
I could set my watch, I’m keeping track
Then you call me up, I just have to laugh
The minute I'm gone you want me back
Chorus
Ooooh, you want me back
Ooooh, you want me back,
Ooooh, you want me back,
Ooooh, you want me back,
You oughta take a look at our love tracks
You ought check it out all our zig zags
And maybe I should check my head for cracks
The minute you call, i come runnin' back
Chorus
Ooooh, runnin’ back
Ooooh, runnin’ back
Ooooh, runnin’ back
Ooooh, runnin’ back
Bridge
I wish I had a nickle,
I wish I had a dime,
I wish I had a man
to love me all the time.
Mama gave a nickel
Daddy gave a dime
And I took me a man
But I’ll give you back that nickel
I’ll give you back that dime
I’ll give you back that man
Cause I’m losing my mind.
Y’all pull up your chairs and have a sit-back
We’re gonna do our dance ‘round the same track
It ain’t exactly love but it’s a fact
The minute you call, i come runnin' back.

Cold Saturday ( Julia A. Kasdorf 1996)
1. Weekends come around
Momma packed us up for gettin' out of town
We was fussin' and whinin' and missing cartoons
To a beautiful place with a curious name
My grandma's farm was called Cold Saturday.
2. Too young to know we were blessed
Mama knew what was best
She seemed to know somehow
It couldn't last forever
Horses hooves on the road, smell of leather.
3. This old wooden door used to mystify
Tucked in the garden wall, cross over the threshold
And find that you were still
Crackin’ walnuts on the flagstones where they’d fallen.
4. Horses graze on the hill
Ride as far as you will and you'd never see
No high tension wires
It must've hurt my momma bad
Wantin' us to have what she had in a world on fire.
5. This water's swimmin' with shadows
Leap off the dock in the summertime
And hopin' that i'd never touch the bottom
In the winter time we'd skate
over the frozen face of the lake
Over leaves of autumn.
6. Twilight and fireflies
Hide and seek in the dwindling light
Grass stains on my knee.
Earth and grass, ice in a glass and company.
7. Father plays his guitar
Music calls us in from the dark to the circle of people
And farm dogs twitching and dreaming
Fall alseep at my mother's feet
Nothin' could sound as sweet as my daddy singing.
8. Now the place is gone
And we must all carry on thanking God for the treasures
he sends our way
Other places come and go
The sweetest memories that I know come from
Co-o-o-old Saturday 3x + out

Girls Gotta Know (Julia Kasdorf, 2010)
Heard you tell her everything’s alright
Don’t you worry, I’ll be around sometime
But while you walk around You’re losing your shine
Girls are different, just part of the plan
We need to know where you stand
Chorus
Girls gotta know
Girls gotta know
If you love her, man, tell her so
Girls gotta know
You say “Girl, why can’t you let it be”
You’re always calling. Badgering me
I’ll be there when I get there Why the third degree?
Girls are different, there can’t be no doubt
Are you in or you out?
No one’s gonna bust in on your fun
No one has to tell ya how to get things done
But Sometimes I think you can’t count higher than one
Girls get tired of the way that you do
We’re done waitin’ on you
We’re done waitin…8x

Motel (Julia A. Kasdorf, 2008)
I wanna hide in a motel
No one knows where I’m goin’
I won’t ever tell
Gonna hide in my own shell
Mmm
On dirt road, on a dark night
Dusty neon flashing by the road side
Slide a dollar, get my long night
Mmm
Ain’t no one calling
Ain’t no one on my mind
No one here to tell me
If Im doing right
Off the road
Stepping out of my light
Mmm
I want my own little door
To my own little world
Give me a number,
I don’t need a name
I wanna hide in a motel
Mmm
Won’t be smoking
And I won’t be drinking
With any luck at all
I won’t be thinking
Cut the line and just go driftin
Mmm
Hey the world turns without me tonight.

Cool water (Julia Kasdorf, 2016)
I been pushing so hard against that rock
Sweat pouring down but I don’t stop
Been chasing that road all day long
Over the hill, but it just goes on
And I fall down
I always do
When I fall down
I reach for you
I reach for you
I always do
You’re cool
You’re my cool water
Well you might think
That I might learn
From all my scrapes and bumps and burns
But I’ve got a hunger
I’ve got a stone-hard head
And any warning I soon forget
If anyone could talk me some sense
Before I drive my car into that fence
It would be you but you let me go
You don’t roll your eyes
Or say I told you so
Cause I need to fall down
I always do
Its just my way
But thank got for you
Through all my wild and desperate moves
You’re cool
You’re my cool water.

Walk Your Dog (Julia A. Kasdorf 1992)
Sitting in the blue light waiting to pass out
My mind is making dust my soul is checking out
Sleeping doesn’t work, drinking doesn’t pay
Its that half-light feeling at the corner of the day
But right now I just wanna walk your dog.
There’s a letter on the table a knock upon the door
Lisa loves the feeling yeah she’s coming back for more
Tim owes me money and Doug wants a date
Brian’s got a broken heart but that’s all gotta wait
Cause right now I just wanna walk your dog.
Maybe it’s a Friday, I’m sitting in the bar
Maybe it’s a Monday, I’m sleeping in my car
Maybe I’m from Venus, cause baby you’re from Mars
Where the meter comes out better on a stolen guitar.

Reservations (Julia Kasdorf © 2015)
Verse 1
You glow like a neon cocktail sign in the barroom
You shine like a row of Teles in a guitar showroom
You glitter like the chrome on a tailpipe, a gleam that can't last
You burn like a sun headed for collapse
Verse 2
Your body is the kind I’d design if I had my own choosing
The way that you kissed me, boy, it felt just like the movies
And a lifetime of lessons slipped off me like clothes in the summertime
When I saw your green eyes, I couldn't believe my luck.
Chorus
But the closer I get, the more damaged I get
When I see you up close you're a mess
For the first time I’m wonderin bout what I want
Am I strong enough for this?
I have reservations.
Bridge
But how can I live inside a conflagration
How long can love last when you're living on a pyre
And you handle any bit of friction with gasoline and matches
And you blame your bridges for catching on fire
Verse 3
You're too young to see that you're causing all your own disasters
And I’m too old to pretend I want the crazy things you're after
I'm not taking this on, I'm not charging in to put out your fires
There was a time that I would but now, I'm just tired.

Old Coat

|

Old Coat (Stooky, Travers, Mezetti) arr. Julia Kasdorf, 2004
I looked to the east
I looked to the west
A youth begging fate to be rewardin’
But fortune is a blind god
Flying through the clouds
Forgetting me on this side of Jordan
Chorus
Take off your old coat
And roll up your sleeves
Life is a hard road to travel
Golden spoons to some mouths
Silver spoons to others
Dares a man to change the given order
Though they smile and tell me
All of us are brothers
Never heard it none this side of Jordan
Like a ragged owlet with its wings extended
Nailed to some garden gate or bordin’
Thus I will to some man all my life be branded
Never heard it none this side of Jordan
Chorus
Take off your old coat
And roll up your sleeves
Life is a hard road
Life is a hard road
Life is a hard road
to travel I believe (folked-out)

A LOVER'S FAREWELL (AP Carter, arr Julia Kasdorf)
We have met and we have parted
We have spoke our last goodbye
You have proved to be falsehearted
You may now forever go
You have wrecked the heart I've cherished
You have done me day by day
You are false, but I’ll forgive you
To forget you, I cannot say
For I love you, dear, I love you
More than all this world I know
You have proved to be falsehearted
You may now forever go
among the trees and bushes
Where the dark green willow waves
In the cold and silent marshes
There you'll find my lonely grave

Blue Veil (Julia Kasdorf, 2007)
I’m gonna say some things you ain’t gonna wanna hear
But its something that we can’t ignore
We’re burning through this earth like we could just pick up another
The next time we go to the store
Everything we buy costs more than what we pay
If you follow all the chemicals through
Landfills fillin’ up, pcbs turning up
Because of stupid things we do
We never give a thought when we’re jumping in our cars
To the drilling that’s killing the ground
Don’t blame the president for wrecking the environment
When we’re the ones sucking it down
When it gets too cold we run Arizona
And turn our air conditioner high
When it rains too much we head to California
And drink the Colorado dry.
chorus
Outside there’s a thin blue veil
Between us and the dark of space
These systems are starting to fail
We’re losing the human race.
Buying junk from asia cause we think we’re saving money
But how much does it really cost
To exploit the kids of china and wreck their land and rivers
You know it’s everybody’s loss
We blow the tops off the mountains Cause we’ve got to get the coal
To get the power pumpin right to our door
But we could find a better way if we took a bit today
Of all that money that we blow on war
bridge
If not now, when, if not us, who
You now it’s really up to me and it’s up to you
How much house, how much stuff
How will we know when we have enough?
(We have enough)
Pull yourself back way up in the sky
High above the atmosphere
You can’t see the guns, you can’t hear the crying
Earth sure looks good from here
Its lonely out in space you can’t even breathe
No other life as far as we know
Looking down from up above the little planet that we love
Our fragile blue-green home
All the stuff we gotta buy
New stuff we just gotta try
When its old don’t throw it out
Make it do or do without
Take a walk don’t drive the car
Find out who your neighbors are
Teach your kids to play guitar
Sit outside and watch the stars
Melting snow, hurricanes
No more Olympic winter games
Coral reef, ocean zoo
When they go then we go, too
Arctic glaciers need the frost
All the fish are getting lost
What about the polar bears
Come on man, I know you care
I’d love to change the world...
